Lacombe's Light up the Night festival received some good new this afternoon (Oct. 27), as their title sponsor signed on for another term.

Stantec renewed its sponsorship, committing $18,000 over the next three years.

Recognizing the increasing popularity of the event, the amount being given is up $3,000 from the first term, when it was signed three years ago.

Todd Simenson, Vice President and Regional Leader of Alberta North and Territories for Stantec, said it's something he and team are proud to be a part of.

“We like to invest back into the community. We have a lot of staff that live in and around all of the communities around Red Deer and the City of Lacombe.”

“Those staff really appreciate getting involved in a lot of the community events, so when the City of Lacombe approached us three years ago about this event and being the title sponsor, there was no reason to say no.”

Guy Lapointe, Community & Economic Development Manager with the City of Lacombe, said the money will go towards continuing the growth of the festival.

“The donation means we are getting bigger and better every year. Our goal is to be the preeminent holiday event in Central Alberta. We do offer one of the only Santa Claus parades in Central Alberta at this point and we’ll have the Home Grown Theatre who’ll be offering “A Wonderful Life” over two nights.”

Stantec came on as the title sponsor in 2014, when they presented the City with a check worth $15,000, over three years.

The seventh annual Light up the Night festival takes place from Nov.22-26.
