St. Patrick’s Community School in Red Deer got some good news on Saturday regarding funding for renovations.

Minister of Education David Eggen made the trip to Red Deer, to announce the school will receive $9 million in funding towards upgrades.

The school is currently operating at 130 per cent capacity, forcing classes to be taught in hallways, the staff room and office areas.

Principal Terri Lynn Mundorf said the funding couldn’t come at a better time.

“We’re so excited and we can’t wait to see how they’re going to reconfigure the school to create those collaborate learning spaces for our students.”

“They deserve it and we have children from all over the world who come to this school so they’re just as excited as we are.”

Eggen first visited the school just a couple of months ago and saw the problems, he said he was extremely excited delivering the news.

“You could see how they were working to make a good place and a good environment for the kids here.”

“The atmosphere and general community is really great and I think they need a school that matches that, matches that effort and the growth that is taking place here in North Red Deer.”

St. Patrick’s Community School is one of seven schools in the province to receive funding for modernization and the money will be used on new electrical and air ventilation along with more learning spaces.
