This morning was all about branding down at the Dancers Edge Studio, as the Social Media Breakfast held its tenth session in Lacombe this year.

The Social Media Breakfast’s intentions are to inform community members and small business owners about the importance of social media when it comes to promoting themselves and their business.

Brand builder Dwayne Holland is with CORE Brand out of Red Deer, and he was the guest speaker at this morning’s breakfast.

Holland says the most important step in branding, is to look inside yourself, and discover what makes you come alive, and turn that into your story.

“Number one is just starting to do that internal look to see really what you do, or what you want to do, and what you are passionate about. Beyond that, once they develop that and kind of know who their audience is, then really understanding that audience, and developing a story that kind of goes with that audience. So you can take a sharable story out to the world, and communicate in a better way.”

His message was about the importance of having and controlling your brand, whether it's referring to a business or just you as a person.

“As I was saying today it’s the foundation of anything. It is the heartbeat of the brand or a person. It is important to have that to move your business or even your personal endeavours forward. It’s kind of like a compass.”

Social Media Breakfast Lacombe meets on the first Wednesday of every second month.

The next one is on the first of November, down at Good Neighbour Coffee at 8am.
