Promising to be a voice for seniors and saying change is needed; Joyce Smith filed her appropriate paperwork at Lacombe City Hall yesterday (Sept 18th), vying for a seat on City Council.

Smith brings some past political experience at the municipal level.

“I am an ex-mayor; I was an elected official at one time and did hold that position and I do know the avenues that you can take for support because it is there.  I was the Mayor of Caroline and it doesn’t matter what the size of your village, hamlet, whatever, you have the same criteria that you must follow”.

As a senior herself and after supporting her mother who lived in senior care, Smith says seniors deserve more respect, and that’s why she decided she must put her name forward.

“Because we are not getting the support from the County, the City of Lacombe, the Mayor, we’re not getting it from the private sector.  They are trying to institutionalize seniors care as well as senior’s independent living.  I will support the seniors”.

In terms of what you can expect of Smith’s campaign, she’s just looking to ensure seniors are represented.

“I don’t plan on putting a bunch of placards or anything out, as long as the seniors know I am there for them, that’s all that matters”.
