Central Alberta business owners enjoyed some breakfast while learning about the benefits of advertising over Facebook.

The 7th edition of Social Media Breakfast Lacombe was held this morning, with guest speaker, and owner of Pursuit Adventures JP Fortin (Four-Tin) giving a presentation on Facebook Advertising for Beginners.

Fortin says Facebook is somewhat of an untapped resource that he encourages business owners to take advantage of.

"Facebook is getting busier but there is still a lot to be gained there, because again a lot of local businesses aren't active on it. Especially when it comes to advertising, and putting out really good content that is going to get you the results. So I think there's a lot more that can be done, specifically in the ads side and you focus on what's relevant to your customers."

Fortin says for his business that offers adventure tours through Central Alberta, Facebook is their main resource to reach new guests to come and experience what they have to offer.

Fortin says advertising through Facebook is a great way to spread the word about what your business has to offer, as long as you're targeting the correct audience.

"We make sure to really target our ads on our target markets, and the ones where we're getting results. Our focus is within a couple hours of Red Deer. One thing we see from a lot of businesses when they're first starting is they click yes to advertising and all of a sudden they're promoting to all of Canada, even though they're trying to focus locally."

Fortin says it's also important to make your ad interesting, because if it comes off as advertisement, it will be treated as one and won't get the engagement you were looking for.
