Are you SEXcessful?

That's the question the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre is asking, as they held a Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance event at Red Deer College today.

Gina Benson is a 3rd Year Nursing Student and organizer of SEXcessful, and she says positive sexual health means a lot more than just using protection.

“We’re just promoting all aspects of having good sexual health.  Anything from consent, to contraception, the spirituality aspects, cultural aspects, gender orientation, pregnancy, everything. So we just want to make sure people are educated on what having good sexual health looks like.”

Benson says their message this year is all about how positive sexual health all starts with having respect.

“We are really focused on the #iRespect campaign that’s based out of the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Centre, so just respecting yourself, respecting others, respecting choices, because out of respect is where we can have the good choices being made.”

The Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance Event ran from 10 until 3 today (Nov. 24th) outside the main gym at RDC.

This is the second year for this sexual health fair, with the first focusing on consent.

Booths from several community partners were also set up, including Central Alberta Pride, Home Church, Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter, and the Trans and Non-Binary Aid Society.
