Employees of Sears stores across the country are reacting today, after the company announced they will be closing the doors on 59 locations across the country, 13 of them being in Alberta.

The Sears full line store located in Bower Place is one of the stores on the chopping block, with employees just learning of this fact today.

Although no confirmed date of closing has been announced yet, a representative from Sears Canada says it will be in a few months.

A total of 27 full time and 69 part time associates at the Bower Place Sears store are affected.

Those employees can apply to any other Sears locations, and Sears is offering them access to a virtual career transition website to help during this time.

The Sears representative said that the store closing is not a reflection of the quality of service provided by the store, but the company needing to scale back operations.

Almost one-third of the locations being closed by Sears Canada as part of restructuring under bankruptcy protection are located on the prairies.
