Out of the seven divisions in Lacombe County, four of them have all been acclaimed.

Division one sees new comer John Ireland going up against 4 term incumbent Rod McDermand.

McDermand knows that seeing through all aspects of the Municipal Government Act, which promotes cooperation between all neighbour municipalities throughout Alberta, will be hard work, but he hopes to have a chance to work more on it.

“The Municipal Government Act is going to make sure we involve other related municipalities. It’s going to be a matter of a planning process, and it’s going to take a great undertaking on our part to be involved in that whole process, so it’s virtually all of our municipal partners in our area, which is pretty extensive.”

McDermand has also heard from his constitutes about the apparent increase in rural crime. Although an increased awareness in this the social media age is partly to blame, he understands their frustrations.

“The issue that I find more and more by campaigning is the whole issue of police enforcement….I don’t have great solutions for that because it’s certainly a criminal matter, but it’s certainly something that’s expiring people as far as their tolerance levels, it’s not good.”

Paula Law, Barb Shepard, Dana Kreil and Brenda Knight have been acclaimed.

Division 5 has incumbent Ken Wigmore up against Denise Sumner, and division 6 has Keith Stephenson up against Robert Szasz.
