On May 1, Rocky Mountain House RCMP investigated two separate and serious motor vehicle collisions, one of which resulted in a fatality.

At 1:45 p.m., the RCMP responded to a call of a serious collision involving a truck and a pedestrian in the crosswalk at the intersection of 54th Street and 53rd Avenue.

The 84-year-old male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, following which he was transported via STARS Air Ambulance to a Calgary hospital. Unfortunately the male died in the hospital as a result of injuries incurred in the collision.

The RCMP will not be releasing the name of the deceased pedestrian. An update will be provided by the RCMP in relation to this collision when further information is available.

At 5:25 P.M., the RCMP, Emergency Medical Services and Clearwater Fire responded to a head on collision south of Rocky Mountain House on Highway #22, between Range Road 65A & Township Road 37-2. A semi-truck was northbound on Hwy #22 and a minivan was travelling south.

The minivan crossed the center line and was struck by the semi-truck.

The driver of the van, a 67 year old male, was transported to Rocky Mountain House Hospital, with serious injuries, prior to being airlifted by STARS to an Edmonton Hospital where he is in stable condition.

The 54 year old male driver of the loaded semi-truck was not injured. The double trailer of lumber did not spill.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP with the assistance of the RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate both of these collisions. All contributing factors will be considered in the ongoing investigations.
