You can add the Mayor of Ponoka to the list of Central Alberta mayors running for re-election this fall.

Rick Bonnett has been Mayor of Ponoka for the past 4 years.

Before that, he served on council, and was also on several boards, including the Ponoka Ag Events Centre Society, and was also the Ponoka Stampede and Exhibition Association liaison.

Bonnett says a steady stream of growth and the beginning stages of a recreation centre are a few of the things he is proud of accomplished during his tenure as mayor.

“We’ve had some continued solid growth. We’ve got some buildings and facilities being changed over and worked on, so I think that’s probably our biggest push. We’re right on the cusp of getting this recreation thing through, with the feds and the province, now we just want to see it built, and I can walk away a much happier person.”

He says his goals for his potential next term are similar to the way he's running things now, with a focus on growth.

“If you want to see growth, I’m going to continue to do that, if you want to sit back and not have things go, don’t vote for me. I will continue to push for as much growth and as much new development coming into town as possible.”

Albertans go to the poles on Monday, October 21st.
