With 19 years council experience under his belt, Councillor Richard Poole hopes to help the Town of Blackfalds continue their upward trend, by announcing his intent to run for mayor.

Poole made the announcement at Tuesday night’s town council meeting, shortly after current mayor Melodie Stol announced her intention not to seek re-election this fall.

Poole said his main focus is the community of Blackfalds, and felt no desire to take the Mayor’s seat, because he was happy with the direction current and past councils were going, and he intends to continue in their direction.

“I’m here for the council, and for the Town. I’m not here to put another line on my resume. Mel was doing a wonderful job. As council, we all worked together to support each other. The positivity and the good things that this council have done, needs to be continued.”

Poole says if he is elected as mayor, he would continue to carefully consider and execute plans related to the future growth of Blackfalds, the fastest growing municipality in Canada.

“We have very many plans that have been put together from the people. They are organizational plans. Our Municipal Sustainability Plan, our Recreation Plan, we have a Facility’s Plan coming up. Every council we have done something fantastic, and we are going to continue that.”

He said he always agreed with the direction council was headed during Stol’s ten years as mayor, even if him and long-time friend Stol didn't always agree on every issue.
