Redevelopment of Lacombe's downtown continues, after council rezoned five lots on 51st Street at 52nd Avenue from a multi-unit dwelling district, to an apartment district.

The developer plans to consolidate the five lots to construct an apartment building. With the rezoning, up to 51 units would be allowed.

“That area is part of the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan, which we do see as a direct extension of the downtown. We’re starting to see our downtown grow from just 50 Avenue to 51 Avenue. This will continue some of that denser development,” said chief administrative officer Matthew Goudy.

“The developer also owns some property to the south of this one where they’ll be looking at rezoning for some commercial uses on 51 Avenue.”
