Like many communities, Lacombe would love to see an improvement in voter turnout on October 16th.

Returning Officer Dion Pollard explains how many residents took the time to cast a ballot last time around, in 2013.

“Roughly 8800 eligible voters and we had about 3300, so about 37% of the people in 2013 came out to vote.  I think in any municipality or any kind of election everybody would like to see higher turnout”.

In terms of a benchmark, he’s set a high but what he feels is an attainable goal.

“According to our census I think we have about 10,000 eligible voters for the 2017 election, so I think we would love to get up to that 5,000 number, 50% voter turnout or higher.  With the number of candidates running that will probably increase the voter turnout which we hope happens”.

Voter turnout in Lacombe was slightly better than Red Deer's nearly 32% that voted in 2013.

There is one more advance poll in Lacombe before Election Day, on Wednesday, October 11th from 4-8pm at City Hall.

Red Deer meantime has Advance Polls tomorrow (6th) and Saturday (7th) from 10-8 at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery, and again next Friday (13th) and Saturday (14th).

The polls are open 8 am to 8 pm on Monday, October 16th.  Lacombe residents cast their ballots at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.
