No damage or injuries were reported as residents of Royal Oak Manor in Lacombe were evacuated this evening around 6pm, after a gas leak alarm was activated.

Lacombe fire crews quickly responded, and determined there was a gas leak, and called in a second crew to help evacuate all the residents to a shady area outside.

Atco was called in to fix the gas leak, which was determined to be a minor malfunction, and not caused by any damage.

Captain with the Lacombe Fire Department Michael Luymes said the residents were not allowed back in until the building got the all clear.

"Total evacuation was about an hour and half is what it took, and then we got about half an hour to investigate fully, and they were back in about two hours. We did say they were not allowed back in until we figured out the cause, and there was due case, so it was perfectly executed with the evacuation...all for safety reasons, can't send them back in until we determine that it's safe".

Residents were back inside and the scene was clear by 9.
