On November 1, 2016, Didsbury RCMP responded to a complaint from a concerned citizen who reported witnessing a suspicious male in their neighbourhood.

Investigators attended and determined that William Govan, age 34 was operating a stolen vehicle and stalking his ex-girlfriend.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Mr. Govan fled in the stolen vehicle. He was located and arrested later that evening by Sylvan Lake RCMP.

Govan is facing numerous charges as a result of the November 1 incident including Criminal harassment, Flight from police, Possession of stolen property, Dangerous driving, Breach of recognizance and Drive while unauthorized.

Further investigation into Govan's actions in Didsbury and the surrounding area have resulted in additional charges of Mischief and Assault from an incident in Didsbury on September 29, 2016, and Theft, from a gas and dash which occurred in Didsbury on October 14, 2016.

Beiseker RCMP have laid one charge of Theft of gas and three charges of Possession of stolen property for being in possession of a stolen truck, stolen trailer ,and stolen propane tank from an incident in Linden on October 25, 2016.

Govan is has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance, by CCTV, on November 7, 2016.

The Didsbury RCMP would like to thank the public for being observant and calling police to report suspicious activity.

"This is a great example of collaboration between the police and public to keep our communities safe and secure. A concerned citizen led directly to this arrest and these charges being laid" says the Didsbury detachment commander, Sgt. Kim Pasloske.
