A plan looking at 20 years of renovation and expansion to the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre has been put on hold for now, as council agreed to hold any plans off until next year.

The presentation made by Expedition Management Consulting at the Monday (Sept 25th) council meeting wasn't enough to persuade council into acting right away, citing things like current or overlooked projects that should be completed first, and also the fact that a potential entirely new council will be looking at this come next month.

Councillor Reuben Konnik appreciated the information that was presented, but objected to the idea of moving forward with the renovations, until some other projects on the city's agenda were dealt with first. After that, it’ll be up to the new council to decide which projects they can realistically tackle first.

“I think there is a lot of good information there, I just can’t help but wonder of what other projects have been defered as a result, for example some public works, I think there are some things there we need to address before we do this. There are lots of things this community needs, this next council will have to prioritize those, and see what’s important.”

The first phase under the proposal would see expansion of the change rooms; other phases include the addition of a sauna, spray and play water features, a waterslide, another hot tub, and eventually enhancing the leisure pool and adding a fitness centre and indoor playground.
