Starting May 5, 2019, those that use Transit in Red Deer will have to make some slight adjustments.

The bus service will be reducing the service on Sundays and holidays from every half hour to every hour.

Transit Manager, George Penny says these changes won't affect the duration of the actual trip.

“The actual journey time will be the same if before it took you 45 minutes to get to where you’re going, or to your connection it will still take you those 45 minutes.”

City Council approved the changes as a cost savings measure during the 2019 Operating Budget.

The first bus will depart Sorensen Station at 8:45 AM with a service every hour until the last bus departs at 6:45 PM.

“Let’s say you finish work and you normally have to wait 15 minutes, they will now have to wait 45 minutes,” explains Penny.

Transit was able to use ridership statistics to best determine how a service reduction would impact as few people as possible.
