The City of Red Deer is getting ready to open some of their public recreation centres starting on Monday, July 6th, after most of them have been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Facilities and any events taking place there will still have to follow Alberta Health Service's public health orders and guidelines.

Here's how the re-open looks for the coming weeks:

July 6th- Day camps start with half-day sessions for specific age ranges. More information is available at reddeer.ca/daycamp. Ice at the Collicutt Centre will also be available for user groups only.

July 7th- Outdoor fitness classes will start at Setters Place at Great Chief Park. Registration is required, and more information can be found at reddeer.ca/outdoorfitness.

July 9th- Blue Grass Sod Farm Central Spray & Play and Lava Rock at Kin Kanyon opens. Limits of only 100 people at a time will be in place.

July 13- Lane swimming will be available at Michener Aquatic Centre, with registration required as there will be capacity limits in place.

July 20-

  • Indoor fitness and running track at available at the Collicutt Centre. Registration is required. At this time, indoor fitness classes will not be available.
  • Aquatic fitness classes at Michener Aquatic Centre start. Only shallow-water activities will be available. Registration is required and capacity limits will be in place.
  • Public swimming at the Collicutt Centre and G.H. Dawe Community Centre starts. Registration required and capacity limits will be in place.
  • Field house and gymnasium at Collicutt Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre and Michener Aquatic Centre available for rentals or registered activities.
  • Swimming lessons at Collicutt Centre and G.H. Dawe Community Centre start. At this time, only private swimming lessons will be offered.
  • Culture Services at Intermediate School open to the public; day camps operating and Viewpoint Gallery open.
  • Dry space at Kinex Arena for user groups only. o Meeting Rooms at Setters Place and Intermediate School available for rentals

The Recreation Centre and Servus Arena will remain closed at this time as the City continues to assess and understand the demand for these facilities. The outdoor pool and Discovery Canyon will also remain closed for the season.
