Recent arrests by Red Deer RCMP include a number of trafficking and weapons charges, and involved numerous suspects who were wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of their arrest.

Many were arrested in stolen vehicles and were in possession of stolen identity documents, chequebooks, credit and debit cards. 

September 13

Shortly before 6:30 am, Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious truck parked on a street in the Clearview neighbourhood. The truck had been reported stolen out of Sylvan Lake on September 12, and police arrested the lone male occupant without incident. He was in possession of a stolen debit card at the time of his arrest.

28 year old Gregory Bruce Deering appeared in court on September 15 on the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation

September 13

The morning of September 13, Red Deer RCMP located a man who was wanted on outstanding warrants after failing to appear in court after police arrested him in a stolen car on July 16.

46 year old William Louis Murphy was arrested on the following warrants:

  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • TSA 54(1)(a) – Uninsured motor vehicle
  • TSA 51(a) – Operate motor vehicle without valid license

Murphy was remanded for court on September 15 and is scheduled to appear in court again in Red Deer on October 4 at 9:30 am.

September 13

At about 2 pm on September 13, Red Deer RCMP located a woman who was wanted on outstanding warrants. At the time of her arrest, she was found to be in possession of several stolen driver’s licenses, a stolen chequebook, heroin and what is believed to be fentanyl.

36 year old Sheri-Lynn Koch faces the following charges in addition to her outstanding warrants:

  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000 X 4
  • CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance X 2

Koch was remanded for court in Red Deer on September 15 and will make her next appearance on September 29 at 9:30 am.

September 14

Shortly after 9 pm on September 14, RCMP were called to a restaurant in response to a report that suspects who had defrauded the restaurant the week before were back. RCMP attended and arrested a man and a woman. The man was wanted on three outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest and provided a false name to police, who quickly verified his real identity. At the time of his arrest he was in possession of stolen identification and a credit card from several different victims, as well as crystal meth. The woman was identified as the suspect in three separate files involving fraud at a hair salon, a restaurant dine and dash, and a gas and dash. RCMP continue to investigate and more charges may be pending.

33 year old Cody Douglas Holden faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 334(b) – Theft under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 56.1 – Illegal possession of government documents X 2
  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000 X 2
  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resists/ obstructs peace officer
  • CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance (crystal meth)

Holden made his first appearance in court in Red Deer on September 20 and is scheduled to appear again on October 18 at 8:30 am.

30 year old Ashley Dawn Taylor faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 334(b) – Theft under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 364(1) – Obtain food/ lodging by fraud
  • Criminal Code 380(1)(b) – Fraud under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 2
  • Criminal Code 742.6 – Breach of conditional sentence order X 2

Taylor made her first court appearance in Red Deer on September 22 and will appear in court again on October 27 at 8:30 am.

September 14

At 4 pm on September 14, RCMP responded to a report of a suspect who had brandished a knife at staff at a south end store and threatened them after being confronted for allegedly shoplifting. The suspect then fled the store and left the area in a car. RCMP located the suspect car and conducted a traffic stop in the area of 48 Avenue and 43 Street. The suspect resisted arrest but was taken into custody without injury to himself or to police. Police seized knives, stolen identity belonging to numerous theft victims, including identification that had been altered, and a large amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. RCMP continue to investigate.

24 year old Jordan Sherman Walker faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 267(a) – Assault with a weapon X 2
  • Criminal Code 264.1(1)(a) – Uttering threats X 2
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Criminal Code 334(b) – Theft under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
  • Criminal Code 368(1)(a) – Use/ traffic/ possess identity document
  • Criminal Code 403(1)(a) – Identity fraud
  • Criminal Code 402.2(1) – Identity theft X 13

Walker made his first court appearance in Red Deer on September 20 and is scheduled to appear again on October 4 at 8:30 am.

September 16

At 8:30 am on September 16, RCMP responded to a report of suspicious activity at a vacant garage in downtown Red Deer. RCMP arrested the suspects and seized a loaded handgun and ammunition as well as a paintbull gun and a replica firearm from the minivan they were driving. Police continue to investigate. A 36 year old woman and a 43 year old man faces numerous weapons charges; their names cannot be released at this time as those charges have not been sworn before the courts.

September 19

Shortly before 8 pm on September 19, RCMP arrested a man and a woman in a traffic stop at a north end gas station as the result of a drug trafficking investigation. Police seized cocaine, methamphetamine, approximately $450 in cash, bear spray and items consistent with trafficking.

39 year old Robert Sean Bishop faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking X 2
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 3

Bishop is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on October 12 at 9:30 am.  

19 year old Mackenzie Rae Bannister faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking X 2
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000

Bannister is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on October 12 at 9:30 am.

September 20

Shortly before midnight on September 20, RCMP arrested a man in a traffic stop in the Eastview neighbourhood as the result of a drug trafficking investigation. The male suspect attempted unsuccessfully to flee police on foot and was arrested nearby. RCMP seized what is believed to be crack cocaine, hundreds of dollars in cash and items consistent with drug trafficking, including numerous cell phones, and stolen identification and a credit card.

24 year old Michael Anthony Turnbull and faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000

Turnbull is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on October 6 at 8:30 am.

September 22

Shortly before 7:30 am on September 22, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious truck parked in the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood. RCMP located a suspect in possession of individually packaged drugs believed to be fentanyl, drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking, approximately $2,200 in cash and three prohibited weapons: brass knuckles, bear spray and an extendable baton.

23 year old Jayme Taylor Klein faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Criminal Code 91(2) – Possession of prohibited weapon X 2
  • Criminal Code 90(2) – Carry concealed weapon
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose X 2

Klein is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on September 27 at 9:30 am.

September 22

At 1 pm on September 22, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious truck parked in an alley in a downtown residential area. RCMP confirmed the Ford F350 had been stolen out of Leduc and contained the area, setting up tire deflation devices as a precaution. The female suspect inside the truck was taken into custody without incident. Police seized ammunition and numerous other items from the truck and continue to investigate to determine if any of the items have been reported stolen.

22 year old Emma Louise James faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 117.01(1) – Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization X 2

James was remanded to appear in court in Red Deer on September 25 at 9:30 am.

September 24

At 12:30 am on September 24, RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Sunnybrook. On arrival, RCMP located a man who was in violation of a number of court-imposed conditions; during the arrest, the suspect caused minor damage to the police car he had been placed inside.

33 year old Andrew Richard Knapp faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 430(4) – Mischief under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 430(1)(d) – Mischief by preventing lawful enjoyment of property
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 3

Knapp was remanded to appear in court in Red Deer on September 25 at 9:30 am.

September 24

At 10 am on September 24, RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a home in Deer Park after a woman caught a man with a knife attempting to break in and trapped him in the back yard. The suspect managed to get out of the yard before police arrived but RCMP located him nearby and took him into custody. The woman was not injured during her interaction with the suspect.

23 year old Samuel George Hudson was wanted on 29 warrants at the time of his arrest: eight out of Red Deer, three out of Calgary, six out of Leduc, and 12 out of Bashaw. In addition to those charges, he now faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
  • Criminal Code 348(1)(a) – Break and enter
  • Criminal Code 267(a) – Assault with weapon
  • Criminal Code 264.1(1) – Uttering threats
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

Hudson was remanded to appear in court in Red Deer on September 25 at 9:30 am.
