Recent arrests of note by Red Deer RCMP include locating and arresting a number of suspects in stolen vehicles, many in possession of stolen identification, weapons and drugs. A number of arrests were the result of RCMP monitoring areas and prolific property offenders identified through the Red Deer RCMP’s Pinpoint policing strategies. Other arrests were thanks to citizens reporting suspicious activity.

November 1 – 20171490477

At 7 pm on November 1, RCMP responded to a shoplifter in custody at a south end business. RCMP took the suspect into custody and seized what appears to be methamphetamine and a number of pieces of stolen identification.

28 year old Cody Robert Letwinetz faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance
  • Criminal Code 56.1 – Illegal possession or trafficking in government documents
  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 2
  • Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation X 2

Letwinetz made his first court appearance on November 2 at 9:30 am.

 

October 27 – 20171462142

Shortly before 4:30 am on October 27, RCMP on patrol in the area of 40 Avenue and 50 Street located a stolen grey GMC truck with a stolen license plate on it. The truck fled police into the Michener Hill neighbourhood, where the driver abandoned the truck and attempted to flee police on foot. He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase and RCMP found he was in possession of stolen identification.

33 year old Jay Dee Coffman faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 249(1)(a) – Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
  • Criminal Code 56.1 – Illegal possession or trafficking in government documents
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 2

Coffman is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on November 6 at 9:30 am.

October 27 – 20171462890

At 9 am on October 27, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Deer Park neighbourhood. Police located a suspect who was found to be breaching court-imposed conditions and in possession of heroin.

32 year old Travis Patrick Meyers faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions

Meyers appeared in court in Red Deer on November 2 at 9:30 am.

October 26 – 20171461267

At 8:45 pm on October 26, RCMP responded to a call of a suspicious man in a vehicle outside a convenience store in the Johnstone Crossing neighbourhood. Police located the suspect in possession of a stun gun, bear spray and a knife, contrary to a court-imposed weapons prohibition, and in possession of heroin and items consistent with drug trafficking.

35 year old David Samuel Reid faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 91(2) – Possess prohibited weapon X 2
  • Criminal Code 117.01(1) – Weapons possession contrary to order X 4
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose X 3
  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession of Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking

Reid is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on November 7 at 9:30 am.

October 26 – 20171459217

Shortly before noon on October 27, RCMP responded to a report of a stolen white GMC truck with a stolen license plate being driven in downtown Red Deer. Police located the truck at a gas station and arrested the driver after he had exited the vehicle. RCMP located fireworks in the possession of the suspect, contrary to a court-imposed prohibition on the suspect possessing weapons, ammunition or explosive devices.

53 year old Adam Reginald Spare faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions
  • Criminal Code 117.01(1) – Weapons possession contrary to order

Spare is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on November 7 at 9:30 am.

October 26 – 20171457303

At 5:30 am on October 26, RCMP responded to a report of a man with a firearm and a machete at a residence in Northwood Estates. Police contained the area and made contact with the suspect, who exited the residence and surrendered to police without incident. Police determined that the incident involved a dispute between several people who were known to each other and the public was not at risk. RCMP obtained a search warrant for the residence and seized an imitation firearm and three machetes.

31 year old Brandon Kevin Wattie faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 264.1(1) – Uttering threats X 2
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Criminal Code 279(2) – Forcible confinement

Wattie was remanded to appear in court on October 27 and appeared again on October 31, at which time his charges were dealt with.

 

October 21 – 20171437673

Red Deer RCMP arrested a man the night of October 21 after receiving a report of a hit and run and numerous other driving complaints regarding the same van; in one incident, the driver of the van was alleged to have pointed a knife at another driver. RCMP located the van, which refused to stop for police and evaded several tire deflation devices before stopping in a north end parking lot. No one was injured in this series of events.

45 year old Sean Michael Drosdoski faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Criminal Code 249(1) – Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Criminal Code 252 – Fail to stop or remain
  • Criminal Code 249.1(1) – Operation of motor vehicle while being pursued by police
  • Criminal Code 264.1(1)(a) – Uttering threats X 2

Drosdoski is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on November 7 at 9:30 am.

 

October 20 – 20171431678

The evening of October 20, RCMP on patrol in the downtown located a stolen Ford Mustang, which refused to stop for police and drove into the West Park neighbourhood. The driver abandoned the car in an alley and fled police on foot, attempting to enter a residence on West Park Crescent before being arrested by police.

23 year old Christian Frank Hinse faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
  • Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 430(4) – Mischief under $5,000
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 2

Hinse is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on November 8 at 9:30 am.

 

October 19 – 20171426504

RCMP located a suspect who was wanted on outstanding warrants the night of October 19, and found him to be in possession of ammunition, in contravention of several weapons and ammunition prohibitions.

36 year old Steven Michael Herman faces the following charges in addition to his outstanding warrants:

  • CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance (GHB)
  • Criminal Code 117.01(1) – Fail to comply with weapons/ ammunition prohibition X 3

Herman was remanded to appear in court on October 23; he is scheduled to appear again in Red Deer on November 3 at 9:30 am.

 

October 19 – 20171425260

At 4:30 pm on October 19, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in downtown Red Deer. On arrival, RCMP determined the Dodge Ram was stolen, and arrested the occupant without incident. Police seized cocaine, a rifle that was hidden in the back seat of the truck, and several knives.

32 year old Michael Wayne Campbell faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance (cocaine)
  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 86(1) – Careless storage of firearm
  • Criminal Code 91(1) – Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 4
  • Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation X 3

Campbell is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on November 3 at 9:30 am.

October 19 – 20171421957

At 3:40 am on October 19, RCMP located a vehicle travelling the wrong way on 50 Street and initiated a traffic stop. The minivan refused to stop, attempting to evade police officers and several tire deflation devices by driving over curbs, onto paths and through an industrial fence before coming to a stop on Riverside Drive. The suspect was taken into custody after struggling with police, and was found to be in possession of cocaine and to be violating a number of court-imposed conditions.

26 year old Dustin Charles Dumais faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance
  • Criminal Code 249.1(1) – Operation of motor vehicle while being pursued by police
  • Criminal Code 249(1)(a) – Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 6
  • Criminal Code 430(4) – Mischief under $5,000

Dumais is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on November 6 at 9:30 am.

October 16 – 20171410565

Shortly before 5:30 pm on October 16, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious male at a south end business. RCMP arrested a suspect who was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was breaching a number of court-imposed conditions and a probation order.

40 year old Cory Patrick Johnson faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 2
  • Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation

Johnson appeared in court in Red Deer on November 2 at 9:30 am.
