Red Deer RCMP arrests of note over the past two weeks are predominantly due to concentrated police patrols in targeted areas and reports from the public of suspicious vehicles or activity.

Most arrests involved suspects who were found to be breaching court-imposed conditions and/ or wanted on outstanding warrants.

Police continue to look for witnesses to a violent assault on May 18 after charging four people, and are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area of 53rd Avenue and the walking bridge that evening to contact Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575.

May 12

Shortly after 9 am on May 12, RCMP responded to a complaint of an altercation behind a strip mall in Highland Green between two men.

On arrival, RCMP arrested two men who were armed with a knife, a chain and a pellet gun.

RCMP seized a small amount of methamphetamine.

Charges are pending against a 21 year old man and a 20 year old man.

May 13

At 6 pm on May 13, RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance behind a building on 54 Avenue in the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood.

On arrival, police located a man who was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants after being arrested in Red Deer on January 1 tampering with the ignition of a truck and in possession of a machete.

21 year old Lane Kenneth Dickson faces the following charges regarding those outstanding warrants:

• Criminal Code 430(4) – Mischief under $5,000
• Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Criminal Code 145(5) – Fail to appear in court

Lane will appear in court in Red Deer on June 13.

May 14

The evening of May 14, RCMP located a woman who was in breach of court-imposed conditions and in possession of a number of documents and a fuel card that had been stolen from a vehicle in Red Deer on May 14.

She was further found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.

30 year old Jo-Ann Roberta Amond faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions
• Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
• CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance

Amond will appear in court in Red Deer on June 28.

May 15

Shortly after midnight on May 15, RCMP on patrol in a known hot spot in an industrial area located a suspicious vehicle and determined that the woman in it was breaching court-imposed curfew conditions and was in possession of several types of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

She was further found to be in possession of personal cheques that had been stolen during a residential break and enter two days earlier.

34 year old Summer Brook Kreiser faces the following charges:
• Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
• CDSA 4(1) – Possession (Schedule I & Schedule VIII substances) X 2

Kreiser made her first court appearance in Red Deer on May 18 and was sentenced on May 25.

May 15

Shortly after 5 am on May 15, RCMP on patrol executed a traffic stop at a gas station on Ross Street and determined that the passenger was wanted on outstanding warrants.

During the course of her arrest, RCMP seized crystal meth and drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

31 year old Tia Marie Cobbe faces the following charges in addition to her outstanding warrants:

• Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
• CDSA 5(2) – Possession for the purpose of trafficking

Cobbe will appear in court in Red Deer on June 12 at 9:30 am.

May 17

At 10 pm on May 17, RCMP responded to a report of suspicious activity at an apartment in downtown Red Deer.

On arrival, police arrested a woman who initially gave a false name to police before the investigation revealed her identity, and a man.

Both were wanted on numerous outstanding warrants and were found to be in breach of various court-imposed conditions.

Police seized a hatchet and a saw during the arrests.

19 year old Liticia Helen Willier faces the following charges in addition to her outstanding warrants:

• Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist or obstruct peace officer
• Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of dangerous weapon X 2
• Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions

Willier was remanded and made her first appearance in court in Red Deer on May 19; she appears next on June 2.

29 year old Clint Harrison Gait faces the following charges in addition to his outstanding warrants:

• Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 2

Gait was remanded and will appear in court in Red Deer on May 31 at 9:30 am.

May 18

Shortly after 7 pm on May 18, RCMP responded to a report of an assault in progress that began in the area of 53 Avenue in downtown Red Deer and progressed toward the walking bridge.

The male victim was taken to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and RCMP arrested a number of people at the scene, some of whom were in possession of weapons and items belonging to the victim.

RCMP continue to investigate and are asking any witnesses to this assault to call the Red Deer RCMP complaint line at 403-343-5575.

30 year old Irene Potts, 25 year old Dustin Strawberry, 32 year old Aaron Gouda, and 39 year old Warren Potts face one charge each of aggravated assault (CC 268) and robbery (CC 344(b)).

Irene Potts faces three further counts of failing to comply with conditions (CC 145(3)), possession of a dangerous weapon (CC 88(1)) and carrying a concealed weapon (CC 90(1)).

Dustin Strawberry faces an additional count of assault (CC 266) and failing to comply with probation (CC 733.1(1)).

All four accused will appear in court in Red Deer on June 6.

May 18

At 11:30 pm on May 18, RCMP on patrol in downtown Red Deer arrived on the scene of a robbery that had just taken place, after a man and a woman were robbed at knifepoint by another man, who stole the male victim`s chain.

RCMP seized the knife, retrieved the chain and arrested the suspect without incident.

24 year old Marlo Tyrell Thomas faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 343(d) – Robbery
• Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

Thomas will appear in court in Red Deer on June 5.

May 19

In two unrelated incidents the afternoon of May 19, RCMP responded to reports of fraud in progress at local businesses; in one incident, a 48 year old woman faces a charge of possession of stolen property after attempting to use personal documents stolen during a theft of a wallet the week before.

In the second incident, a 21 year old man faces fraud and use of forged document charges after attempting to cash a fraudulent cheque from a Red Deer business.

Those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

May 20

The afternoon of May 20, Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of two men who had fought with store security at a south Red Deer business and were believed to be in possession of firearms.

RCMP attended the business and located the suspects in a vehicle outside the business.

One of the men attempted to flee police on foot and was arrested after a brief foot chase. Police seized two firearms from the vehicle and several knives.

26 year old Vincent Luigino Vanin faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 90(1) – Carry concealed weapon
• Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose X 3
• Criminal Code 86(1) – Unsafe storage of firearm
• Criminal Code 91(1) – Unauthorized possession of firearm
• Criminal Code 94(1) – Possession of firearm in motor vehicle
• Criminal Code 95(1) – Possession of prohibited loaded firearm
• Criminal Code 92(1) – Possession of prohibited firearm knowing possession was prohibited
• Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
• Criminal Code 266 – Assault
• Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 4

Vanin will appear in court in Red Deer on June 6.

20 year old Thomas Jeffery Houle faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 90(1) – Carry concealed weapon
• Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Criminal Code 86(1) – Unsafe storage of firearm
• Criminal Code 91(1) – Unauthorized possession of firearm
• Criminal Code 94(1) – Possession of firearm in motor vehicle
• Criminal Code 95(2)(b) – Possession of prohibited loaded firearm

Houle will appear in court in Red Deer on May 31.

May 22

At 2 am on May 22, RCMP attended a downtown apartment building in response to a report of a disturbance. On arrival, police located a suspect who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

In addition to those warrants, 31 year old Lincoln Charles Capel faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions X 4
• Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
• Criminal Code 56.1 – Make/ possess identity documents

Capel will appear in court in Red Deer on June 15 at 9:30 am.

May 23

At approximately 7 am on May 23, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a residential area north of Highway 11A.

On arrival, RCMP determined that the Dodge Ram and the license plate it carried were both stolen, and took the male and female occupants of the truck into custody without incident.

During the course of the arrests, police located another stolen license plate, several stolen corporate credit cards and break-in tools in the truck.

36 year old Christopher Robert Lee Hayward faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
• Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000 X 5
• Criminal Code 351(1) – Possession of break-in tools

33 year old Krista Marie Rix faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
• Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000 X 3

Hayward and Rix will both appear in court in Red Deer on May 31 at 9:30 am.

May 23

At 2:30 pm on May 23, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Village Mall parking lot.

On arrival, police officers located and charged two female suspects who were found to be breaching probation or court-imposed undertakings.

RCMP seized heroin from one suspect.

In addition to the breaches, 28 year old Julene Marie Lattery faces a charge of CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance (heroin). Lattery will appear in court in Red Deer on June 6.

May 24

At 1 pm on May 24, RCMP received a report that a male suspect had caused a disturbance at a cheque cashing business then fled on foot.

RCMP located the suspect shortly afterward in downtown Red Deer while investigating another matter, and took him into custody.

46 year old James Jack Smaaslet faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer X 2
• Criminal Code 175(1)(a) – Causing a disturbance
