RCMP in Red Deer have made numerous arrests over the past 12 days, including multiple stolen vehicles recovered, as well as drugs, weapons, stolen credit cards and identification. These arrests were the result of RCMP increasing patrols on areas identified as having high crime activity, as well as traffic stops and numerous tips from the public.

On April 12th, shortly after 4:30am, RCMP responded to a report of suspicious activity in an alley in Eastview. Once police arrived, they arrested a man who they found to be in breach of his probation and court-imposed conditions.
18-year-old Harley Donald Penney faces the following charges:

• Fail to comply with probation.
• Fail to comply with conditions X2.

Penney has made two court appearances, one on April 13th and the second on April 20th.


Also on April 12th around 3:30pm, RCMP on patrol noticed a vehicle with a stolen license plate, located in a gas station parking lot. Due to the increasingly high number of stolen vehicles in Red Deer, RCMP called in back up as a precaution, which included Police Dog Services. After briefly resisting arrest, the male driver was taken into custody. A 31-year-old man now faces charges for possession of stolen property and several charges of failing to comply with conditions. Those charges have not yet been sworn in.

 

On April 14th, shortly after 5pm, RCMP received a report of a possible stolen truck in the Lancaster neighbourhood. The vehicle was located driving north on 30th Avenue, and police were able to initiate a traffic stop and take the driver into custody without incident. Other stolen items from a nearby store were located in the stolen truck, which was reported stolen out of Lacombe on April 11th.

21-year-old Alli Kevin Halkett faces the following charges:
• Possession of stolen property over $ 5,000.
• Theft.

Halkett will appear in court on June 7th.


Also on April 14th shortly after 9:30pm, police responded to a report of a man using counterfeit money at a north side convenience store. The suspect was arrested without incident.
31-year-old Dylan Michael Johnson was charged with uttering counterfeit currency, and he was also wanted on a warrant for a traffic complaint. He will appear in court in Red Deer on May 9th.


Again on April 14th at 10:30 pm, RCMP arrested a man after he provided a false name during a traffic stop, trying to avoid being arrested for an outstanding warrant. After his real identity was determined, he was arrested, and was found to be in the possession with what they believe was methamphetamine. Charged are pending but have not yet been sworn before the courts.

 

On April 15th just after 7pm, RCMP received a call of a break and enter in progress along Golden West Avenue in north Red Deer. Police arrived on the scene and were able to take the suspect into custody after a brief chase. The suspect was in possession of a SUV which was reported stolen out of Sturgeon County earlier on in the day. Police also located several stolen TVs and a sawed off rifle.

28-year-old Alexander Ray Nicholson faces the following charges:


• Resist peace officer.
• Possession of stolen property over $5,000.
• Possession of stolen property under $5,000.
• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm.
• Fail to comply with probation.
• Possess weapon for dangerous purpose.

Nicholson made his first appearance in court in Red Deer last Thursday, and will appear again on Apil 28th.

 

On April 19th just before 3:30pm, RCMP was on patrol in downtown Red Deer when they noticed a suspicious vehicle that attempted to flee when they saw police. Four people were taken into custody and a number of stolen identity documents and credit cards were recovered. Charges are pending against the individuals, but have not yet been sworn in before the courts.

 

Also on April 19th at 11pm, RCMP were patrolling back alleys in the downtown when the located a truck that had been reported stolen out of Calgary. Police also figured out the black truck park beside it was also stolen, this time out of Blackfalds. There were three individuals in the stolen truck out of Calgary at the time

23-year-old Nicholas Klinck faces the following charges:

• Possession of stolen property over $ 5,000.
• Possession of stolen property under $ 5,000.

RCMP continue to investigate this situations. Further charges are pending against a 33-year-old woman, but they have not yet been sworn in before the courts.

 

On April 21st shortly after 11:30am, RCMP were called to electronics store, after a report of a man attempting to finance a purchase with an ID staff did not believe to be his. After a brief foot chase, RCMP arrested the suspect, who was in possession of numerous stolen credit and debit cards, cheques, and personal identification, as well as what was believed to be methamphetamine and oxycodone.

28-year-old Ryan Shane Schuster faces the following charges:

• Fraud.
• Resist peace officer.
• Possession of Schedule 1 substance X2.
• Possession of stolen property under $ 5,000 X22.
• Possession of identification documents X14.

Schuster will make his first court appearance in Red Deer on April 28th.

 

Also on April 21st, RCMP located a stolen truck as it drove in south Red Deer. The truck was pulled over and the suspect arrested without incident. The truck had been reported stolen out of Ponoka back in February.

28-year-old Gregory Bruce Deering faces the following charges:

• Possession of stolen property over $ 5,000.

Deering made his first court appearance in Red Deer today.

 

And on April 22nd shortly before 4am, RCMP on patrol in Riverside Meadows pulled a vehicle over and determined the driver was under conditions not to be in a vehicle without the registered owner present, and was also wanted on an outstanding warrant. During the arrest, RCMP located three stolen credit cards.

41-year-old Michael William Brown faces the following charges:

• Fail to comply with conditions.
• Theft/forgery/misuse of credit card X3.

Brown made his first court appearance this morning in Red Deer.
