Red Deer Fire Station #4 was officially opened this morning in the Timberlands Neighbourhood.

Not only will the station allow the City to grow East, but local Fire Fighters will receive some of the best training in the province.

Fire Chief Brian Makey says thanks to a new construction and design method, the station was built quicker, and cheaper than ever before.

"They had the walls basically up in about 2 weeks, that's how quick this building went up. Because of that we're under budget, ahead of time, we've saved significant dollars for the City that can now be turned into other capital projects."

Makey says this station is completely unique in that it was designed by their training and operations staff after visiting other stations across the Province.

"Some of the features in this building includes training components for high angled rescue, confined space that are built right into the structure. The hose tower isn't only a hose tower but you can train for sprinkler, high angle, ladder scenarios."

Makey says the budget for both this station and station number 3, being built by the Collicut Centre, was $20 million. Station 4 came in at a total cost of about $7 million.
