If you are planning a vacation this summer and want to see some amazing views, look no further than Red Deer, which has been named one of the most breathtaking places in North America, according to the travel website Expedia.

The websites lists a number of reasons why Red Deer is on this list, including the balance between a lively downtown area, with close access to the great outdoors. However when it comes to the breathtaking views, it’s their public parks that really make it stand out. They specifically mention Maskepetoon Park, as well as Bower Ponds, citing their serenity garden and natural amphitheatre as some of their main attractions.

Spokesperson for Tourism Red Deer Debbie Olsen says they were thrilled to be included on this list.

"We were really thrilled about it. They listed as one of their main reasons, they mentioned the Maskepetoon Park, which is the newest park in the Waskasoo Park system, and it's a pollinator park. But it's really about the park system in Red Deer, that's what's really special about the city, and if you have been into Waskasoo park there is over 100km of trails through there, it's spectacular."

A pollinator park is a park with lots of pollen producing flowers.

Olsen says their trails are so popular, that the band the Barenaked Ladies actually praised their walking paths live on stage during a concert there last year.

Red Deer beat out Canadian cities Peterborough, Ontario, and Antigonish, Nova Scotia. To check out the entire list, you can click on the link below.
