Red Deer RCMP have charged a Red Deer man with arson after completing an investigation into a fire at an apartment building in Riverside Meadows on December 15. 

At 10:45 am on December 15, Red Deer RCMP and City of Red Deer Fire Services responded to a structure fire at 5820 61 Street.

The building was evacuated without injury to anyone, and the fire, which was located in an apartment on the third floor, was extinguished.

The RCMP investigation subsequently determined the fire to be an act of arson, and a suspect was arrested and charged on January 24.

 55 year old Gary Gordon Colwill has been charged with Criminal Code 433 – Arson – Disregard for human life.

 Colwill has been remanded in custody; he made his first court appearance on January 25 and will appear in court again in Red Deer on March 7 at 9:30 am.
