Red Deer College is offering the public a chance to put their name on a piece of RDC history, with their Paving our Future campaign.

The new Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre is scheduled to open in the fall of 2018, with construction already under weigh.

The Paving our Future campaign is part of the bigger Shaping our Future initiative, the goal being to support the long term needs of RDC and their students.

A $500 donation allows you to sponsor your own walking stone, which will line the walking path leading up to the entrance of the new centre.

The stones are fairly large, measuring twenty four inches wide by 8 inches high, with enough room to fit ninety characters on it.

Once you purchase one of the stones, you can have your name, the name of your business, or the name of a loved one engraved on it, which will be visible to all who enter the building.

Bre Fitzpatrick is the Alumni Development Coordinator at RDC, and she says this is not only a clever way to get donations, but a way for residents to contribute to the new centre which will benefit the entire area, not just RDC students.

"It’s really the idea that it takes a whole community to build a centre like this, and not everyone has large amounts of money they can give to make it happen. But, if we have the capacity to give people a way to be part of it, and feel a sense of ownership over a new space that's coming to our community, I think that's really a part of it. And one paving stone doesn't make a whole walkway, nor does one donation make a whole centre happen."
