Red Deer RCMP continue to locate and arrest people in stolen vehicles, in the midst of break and enters, and those wanted on outstanding warrants or breaching court-imposed conditions, thanks to reports from the public and the RCMP’s continued focus on targeted patrols in crime hot spots and checks to ensure people are complying with their court-imposed conditions.

July 5

At 2:30 pm on July 5, RCMP responded to a report of suspicious activity at a hotel and located a woman who was wanted on eight outstanding warrants at the time of her arrest.

In addition to the warrants, 20 year old Tessa Victoria Smith faces a new charge of breaching court-imposed condition (CC 145(3)). She will appear in court in Red Deer on July 25 at 9:30 am.

July 6

At 5:15 am on July 6, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious jeep parked in an alley in Riverside Meadows.

On arrival, police determined the jeep and license plate were both stolen, and took the male occupant of the jeep into custody without incident.

The Jeep had been reported stolen out of Beaumont on July 5 and the license plate had been reported stolen out of Edmonton.

The suspect was wanted on three outstanding warrants out of Rimbey for theft (2) and theft of vehicle (1), and two warrants out of Red Deer for failing to comply with probation orders.

At the time of his arrest, police seized a machete and what is believed to be crystal meth.

RCMP continue to investigate the contents of the Jeep to determine if additional charges will be sworn.

23 year old Jared Michael McLeod faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 35(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
• Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000 X 2
• Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Breach of probation
• Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance

McLeod made his first appearance in court in Red Deer on July 13 at 9:30 am.

July 6

At 11:30 am on July 6, RCMP responded to a report of suspicious activity at a downtown residence and located a suspect who was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants.

46 year old James Jack Smaaslet was remanded and made his first court appearance in Red Deer on July 7 at 9:30 am.

July 6

At 10:30 pm, RCMP on patrol located a suspect who was violating court-imposed curfew conditions and who was further found to be wanted on a warrant out of Innisfail for theft.

The vehicle the female suspect was a passenger in refused to stop when police initiated a traffic stop, and fled the area.

RCMP officers did not pursue the vehicle but located it again a short time later and took the female suspect into custody without incident.

In addition to her warrant, 27 year old Rochelle Reddemann faces a charge of failing to comply with conditions (CC 145(3)). She will appear in court on August 1 at 9:30 am.

July 7

RCMP on patrol in Riverside Meadows at 9:15 pm located a suspicious vehicle and determined that the man driving was a disqualified driver. RCMP located a rifle in the car that the suspect was prohibited from possessing.

A 30 year old man faces charges and will appear in court in Red Deer on August 8 at 9:30 am. His name cannot be released at this time as those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

July 8

Shortly before 11 am on July 8, RCMP responded to a report of a possible break and enter in progress in the Chiles Industrial Park after employees discovered that several storage trailers in an industrial yard had been broken into, and then located a female suspect inside one of the trailers.

RCMP attended and took the suspect into custody without incident.

She was wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of her arrest.

In addition to her warrants, the 48 year old woman faces charges of theft and mischief and will appear in court in Red Deer on August 18 at 9:30 am.

Her name cannot be released at this time as those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

July 11

At 1 pm on July 11, RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter that had just occurred, after a man was seen breaking into a storage room of an apartment building.

RCMP confirmed that three units had been broken into and located the suspect nearby; he was taken into custody without incident.

43 year old Richard Wayne Ogilvie faces the following charges:

• Criminal Code 348(1)(a) – Break and enter X 3
• Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation

Ogilvie will appear in court in Red Deer on July 26 at 8:30 am.

July 11

Red Deer RCMP located a suspect on July 11 after verifying that he had violated his court-imposed curfew conditions on two separate occasions, and arrested him without incident.

40 year old Michael Edward Labar faces two charges of failing to comply with conditions (CC 145(3) X 2) and will appear in court on July 12 at 9:30 am.

July 11

At 9 pm on July 11, Red Deer RCMP received a report of a suspect fleeing from a van the witness believed to be stolen.

RCMP attended and arrested the suspect nearby, thanks to the help of several witnesses. The van had been reported stolen out of Red Deer on July 10.

A 25 year old man faces charges, but his name cannot be released at this time as those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

July 11

On July 11, RCMP received a report of a fraud at a local business, after a man stole a generator, leaf blower and pressure washer worth approximately $2,300 while representing himself as staff from a business that had an account there.

RCMP identified the suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence on July 12, seizing the items.

The 33 year old man, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, was arrested without incident; in addition to his warrants, he now faces a charge of Fraud under $5,000. His name cannot be released at this time as those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

July 12

At 7:30 pm on July 12, Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious male in an apartment building in the Glendale neighbourhood.

On arrival, police located a man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant and was found to be breaching court-imposed conditions.

RCMP seized a small amount of what is believed to be methamphetamine.

46 year old Joel David Bremner faces the following charges in addition to his outstanding warrant:

• Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation X 2
• CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance

Bremner will appear in court in Red Deer on July 17 at 9:30 am.
