Targeted efforts by Red Deer RCMP aimed at career criminals responsible for property crimes and robberies are paying off.

According to the final quarter crime stats from 2016 in the City, property crimes continue to drive an overall increase in Criminal Code offenses, but there was a significant decrease in robberies from 64 down to 39 when compared to the same time frame in 2015.

RCMP Superintendent Ken Foster says they'll continue to target the seasoned offenders through Project Pinpoint which includes increased downtown enforcement and warrant round-ups which they've had a lot of success with.

Nearly 400 charges have been laid specific to Project Pinpoint targets between April and January, with more charges pending and Officers have executed more than 240 warrants.

Foster says the latest stats also show a slight decrease in persons crimes, and traffic collisions decreased in both injury and property damage categories in 2016.

Other policing priorities include monitoring high risk domestic offenders, youth, road safety and organized crime.
