It's the final week to get your hands on tickets for the 2018 Red Deer Hospital Lottery, with 37 prizes up for grabs worth over $1.1 million, including the dream home located in the community of Laredo in the south east corner of Red Deer.

Event Manager for the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation Cynthia de Boer says their foundation and the hospital come together each year to decide where the money will go.

“We’ve purchased equipment for cardiology, we’ve purchased equipment for pediatrics, for maternity. So each year, depending on what is the greatest need in the hospital and according to what we can afford to purchase, we make the decision to fund that cost.”

Just like last year, funds raised this year will go towards purchasing new innovative patient care beds, something de Boer says are essential to patient care, and are much more advanced than the beds in your home.

“Some of the beds we are purchasing are your standard (hospital) beds that you would picture, and they are just over $15,000 each. We also are purchasing some bariatric beds which enable staff to lift larger patients, and those are actually $44,000, so pretty substantial costs for this technology.”

Last year they were able to purchase 39 leading-edge patient beds from the proceeds, and this year they hope to buy an additional 40.

Final ticket sales is on Sunday (June 24th) at 11pm.
