April 19/17 - Red Deer RCMP have charged the man who was arrested in a stolen truck Monday afternoon after police laid two tire deflation devices to stop the truck as it sped through the city attempting to avoid police.

30 year old Nicholas Stephen Galbraith faces the following charges:

· CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule 1 substance (cocaine)
· Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
· Criminal Code 249(1) – Dangerous driving
· TSA 54(1)(a) – Drive without insurance

Galbraith makes his first appearance in court in Red Deer this morning, April 19, at 9:30 am.

It took two spike belts, but Red Deer RCMP were able to arrest a man driving a stolen truck erratically through Gasoline Alley Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 3pm, Blackfalds RCMP received a report of a grey Ford F250 driving dangerously on McKenzie Road, swerving through traffic and narrowly avoiding hitting other vehicles.

Red Deer RCMP was able to locate the truck and attempted to pull it over, but the driver fled from police.

A tire deflation device was then set up on 32nd street which flattened three of the suspect’s tires, but didn't stop the vehicle.

A second spike belt was set up as the driver approached Gaetz Avenue, which disabled the truck completely.

The driver then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, but RCMP was able to apprehend the suspect.

The truck had been reported stolen out of Sylvan Lake earlier that same morning.

Fortunately, no one was injured and no traffic collisions occurred during this chase.

The suspect's name is being withheld until the charges he faces have been sworn in before the courts.
