After about 10 years of lobbying, Father Lacombe Catholic School is getting a much needed upgrade.

The province announced $393 million worth of funds for 20 new school projects including plans to bring Father Lacombe up to date, explains Chair for St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Schools Michelle Lamer.

“Father Lacombe was built in 1958, and it was definitely in need of modernization. There was a lot of deficiency’s, like wiring, and access to the second floor for anybody with mobility issues, and it just doesn’t meet the needs of what we need in school, especially technology wise.”

Lamer says no word yet on how much they'll receive or when construction will start, or if they'll have to move some classes off site once construction begins.

“The City has reached out to offer some space, so hopefully that’s something that can still be looked at and accommodated. We feel confident we will be able to manage space without any issues.”
