An organization promoting healthy children, healthy families and healthy communities highlighted the Mom2Mom event at the LMC on Sunday.

Early Years Matter is meant to increase awareness of the important of a child's early years.

Louise Rellis, Lacombe County's Coordinator, said the importance of parents being a positive presence is often overlooked and needs to be taken seriously.

“If you think of it as your home, your foundation goes in first and then you build your structure on top of it. The early years is the kids foundation for the rest of their lives.”

“How they learn to develop now, is our workforce in years to come and how they develop in school and college.”

Early Years Matter is promoting early years' development through play and kindergarten readiness, something Rellis said is lacking across the country.

“Across Canada, it’s been realized that kindergarten kids are not mentally ready when they get to school. We are trying to raise the awareness of parents and show how easy it is.”

She said 95 per cent of a child’s brain is developed in the five years and said it is vital to the growth of each child.
