Sword fights, archery lessons, and a Viking feast complete with an authentic Danish meal.

These are some of the things you can experience at Viking Days, which are going on this weekend at the Danish Canadian Museum down in Dickson, which is located about 45 minutes south west of Red Deer.

Executive Director of the Museum Brian Desjardins says visitors will have the chance to battle it out with the Vikings, as well as enjoying a genuine Danish feast with them on the Saturday night.

“People will get to experience their battle re-enactment during the supper, as well get to feast with Vikings, which can be pretty interesting, and people have a lot of fun.”

Desjardins says this weekend is a chance for people to have some fun, but is also educational, thanks to the historical accurate portrayal of the Vikings.

“So people who visit can experience and learn more about how the Vikings used to live. During the day too, they also put on some Viking re-enactment of battles, which a favourite of many people who come, to see them actually fight and battle each other using swords and shields.”

The Feast of the Vikings is unfortunately already sold out, but you can still enjoy authentic Scandinavian food from food vendors.

There will also be a performance by the Ollerup Elite Gymnastics Team from Denmark.

The Vikings are part of a re-enactment group from the Edmonton area, known as the Odin's Ravens.

There are very exciting times for the Museum, as they celebrated their 25th anniversary, and a couple of awards from last year.

They won the Wynn McLean Growing Rural Tourism Champion Award, and the 2016 Heritage recognition award for new developments, which includes the authentic Naust ‘Ship House’, and Freydis Joanna ‘Viking Ship’.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 child (3-12 years), and 2 and under cane come in for free.
