A preliminary hearing has been set for May 2018 to determine whether there's enough evidence for sex assault charges against Jason Tress to proceed to trial.

A Red Deer courtroom heard today that the suspended RCMP constable elected for trial by judge alone, before the Court of Queen's Bench.

Tress faces two counts of sexual assault, two counts of breach of trust. Charges stem from three different alleged incidents with three different women.

The preliminary hearing takes place May 7-11.
