Designs for a proposed Community Wellness Centre were revealed at Ponoka Town Council last night.

Included in the design, is a new athletic facility along with an aquatic centre, built on as an expansion to the current Ponoka Culture & Rec Complex.

Director of Community Services Wes Amendt says the project could cost close to $15 million and financial aid from the provincial and federal government is crucial “made quite clear through Council that unless there’s senior government assistance, the project may not get off the ground for a while”.

But there’s no denying a facility like this one would be great for the community according to Amendt “it’ll have a regional impact with regard to the use of a fieldhouse type of a facility and the improvements to the existing arena complex. All of those things just make Ponoka a real attractive place for people to move and raise a family”.

There are no timelines at this point for the project.

Following Council’s approval of the design plans the Town will reach out for funding support.
