Ponoka has launched a new campaign, trying to spark some community wide chatter about revitalizing their downtown.

Today and tomorrow, the town is asking residents to stop by an open house to give their input and help brain storm what changes could be made to improve the downtown area.

Kim Schmidt Director of Planning and Development says this part of their campaign is the most important.

"It's vital that the community comes out to talk and share their ideas with us. Our plans and studies are only as good as our ability to listen the public, then use that information to help achieve a long-term vision."

Schmidt says the project is still in its early stages, but after getting feedback from the community the ball will start rolling.

"We've looked at previous and past studies, but there haven't been a lot of community efforts since the year 2000. So what we want to do is build upon that, and we're going to use that information to share with the public, in hopes of establishing that new vision for the downtown. Then after we get some feedback, we're going to go ahead and make some concepts from what we've heard."

The open houses run today and tomorrow from 1-8 pm at the Kinsmen Community Centre.

If you can't attend either, you can have your say by filling out a quick survey which can be found at www.downtownponoka.ca
