Plans for the reopening of Last Hill Golf Course, just north of Eckville, were presented to Lacombe County Council late last week.

The development proposal includes a driving range, a 12-hole golf course, and 100 recreational vehicle seasonal campsites.

To make the project happen owner and developer of Last Hill, Bill MacLean must get the approval from council on rezoning the property from Agricultural site to Recreational.

“My understanding, if it’s a golf course only it stays as agricultural and that’s probably been the historic zoning of it, said MacLean.

“In order to put in the RV sites, I understand that if something has more than about 19 stalls or something like that, you have to go for the recreational re-designation.

MacLean said it would be a great addition to the community.

“It has a history of tournaments and local things, so that’s really positive.”

“Anyone who drives through the Eckville area knows there’s not a lot of development around there so we think it can’t be anything, but positive.”

Members of council will attend an open house at the Last Hill Golf Course on May 15 from 5-7 p.m. before a decision is made on the rezoning. The public are encouraged to attend.
