A homeowner in Penhold left their house for 15 minutes and returned to discover it in flames.

The fire took place inside a single-family home on Bouteiller Cl on Friday afternoon.

According to acting Fire Lieutenant Quinlan Parson, the fire was in the basement near the furnace and water heater.

Parson said Penhold Fire crews were able to get it under control quickly.

"The firefighters did an outstanding job, we know that basement fires are very dangerous as there is only one way in and it acts like a chimney," said Penhold Fire Chief Jim Pendergast.

No one was injured but the fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage. The cause is still under investigation.

Pendergast also said that a person ran over their fire hose and we are actively requesting that they be charged.
