Residents in Lacombe continue to share their support for a 3-year-old boy battling cancer.

$4,274 was raised this weekend for Shanti Din and her family to help pay the cost of travel, accommodation, food and medication of her young son Drevan, who has soft tissue and muscle cancer.

Organized by Chelsea Clark and Andrea Lavigne, who know Shanti through a mom group, held a fundraiser BBQ and silent auction at Wolf Creek Community Church on Sunday.

Lavigne has shared Shanti’s journey beginning in 2015, when Drevan was first diagnosed. She said seeing the amount of support from the community has been overwhelming.

“All this support for this BBQ has been amazing with the community coming out for donations, for the silent auctions, to those who donated food for the BBQ and the bouncy castle. It’s just been incredible.”

Shanti said it’s been far from easy, but was quick to give thanks to everyone who came out and those who have continued to show support.

“I’m so thankful and it’s actually a pretty good turnout having a lot of people here out supporting my son. He’s having a good time too.”

After multiple rounds of chemo Drevan entered remission in November of 2016. Unfortunately, in June, the family learned the cancer has returned.
