Blackfalds, Alberta - On May 12th, 2018 at approximately 11:45 am, Blackfalds RCMP along with Red Deer Emergency Services responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 west of Red Deer. An east bound truck struck another east bound passenger van as both were approaching the intersection of Burnt Lake Trail and Highway 11. 

Due to the impact the van was forced off the road onto its side in the south side ditch. Both occupants of the van had to extracted from the vehicle by emergency services. The driver of the van was transported to Red Deer Hospital with serious lower body injuries. The passenger of the van was also transported to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the truck was assessed on scene and not transported to hospital.

With the assistance of an RCMP Collision Analyst, the cause of the collision is still under investigation. Charges under the Traffic Safety Act are expected to be laid against the driver of the truck.
