A 35 year old woman faces charges after Red Deer RCMP located her in a stolen vehicle the afternoon of October 18th.

RCMP responded to a report of possible stolen vehicles behind a residence at 2 pm on October 18th.

On arrival, police located a truck that had been reported stolen out of Killam.

RCMP requested that nearby schools go into hold and secure status as a public safety precaution while police officers contained the area and effected the arrest.

The truck was driving slowly down an alley when police approached it; it stopped for police and the 35 year old woman driving it was taken into custody without incident.

The woman will face a Criminal Code charge of possession of stolen property and several traffic charges; her name cannot be released at this time as those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

RCMP continue to investige.

Red Deer RCMP have taken one person into custody after a stolen vehicle investigation that resulted in police presence behind a residence in the area of 37 Avenue and 45 Street at 2 pm this afternoon.

While police contained the area, several nearby schools were placed in “hold and secure” as a precaution, but the events had no relationship to the schools and students and staff were not in any danger during the arrest.

RCMP are still on scene in the area and continue to investigate, but the hold and secure status has been lifted in the schools.

RCMP will issue an update with more information as the investigation continues.
