Two occupants of a small plane are shaken, but otherwise unhurt tonight, after their two-seat aircraft crashed in a field north of the Lacombe airport.

"An aircraft attempted to take off at the airport and as a result of the weather, it ended up getting caught by the wind and then blew it off the runway," said Sgt. Bryan Zens from Lacombe Police.

Fire, police and EMS arrived at the scene shortly after 5 p.m., where the plane was found overturned.

Standing on the side of Highway 2A, the wind blowing and the smell of smoke in the air, Daryl Deardoff was one of those watching. He said he saw the two occupants, a man and woman, walk out and away from the plane without assistance.

Zens said they will take some time to collect themselves before providing a statement.

Transport Canada will be investigating the crash, he added.
