All part of Blackfalds Days, the town opened the doors to the new Wadey Visitor Information Centre on Saturday.

The restored information centre will also serve as the Blackfalds and Area Historical Society, Blackfalds Archives and Blackfalds Chamber of Commerce. Economic Development Officer with the Town of Blackfalds, Jennifer Hartigh, says it was a much needed addition to the community.

“The Chamber of Commerce is going to have a physical space where businesses can come in and access their services and support. The Historical Society will have the opportunity to provide learning about the community and its history to both residents and visitors.”

Hartigh adds it was a long time coming and something that was a must for people visiting the town.

“The town will have the opportunity to showcase all of the fantastic things that there are to do here in the region when we have folks coming in and asking.”

The house was built in 1916 by settler George Wadey and was moved from the south end of Blackfalds to All Star Park in November of 2016. It will include an exhibit with historical artifacts donated by and dedicated to the Wadey Family.

The Grand Opening of the Centre will take place on July 1st, part of the Blackfalds Canada 150 celebration.
