The new Mayor of Penhold says he campaigned hard and honestly and it paid off.

Mike Yargeau earned 192 votes more than Dennis Cooper who has spent 19 years in public office in Penhold.

Yargeau feels he's well equipped to help lead the community.

“One term on Council and I’ve been involved in the community for my whole life. I’ve been involved you know politically, provincially and federally, I’ve managed boards already, I’m ready to do the job. We do have 4 new Councillors so there’s going to be a steep learning curve for them as there was for me 4 years ago”.

Those new Council members in Penhold are Shawn Hamm, Shaun Kranenborg, Tyrone Muller and Ken Denson joining Mike Walsh and Sharolyn Sanchez who were re-elected.

As one of the younger Mayor's in central Alberta, it's something Yargeau campaigned on, and he feels that perspective is needed for Penhold.

“The average age in Penhold is 32, I’m 31. We’re a young family minded community and it shows, people want that type of leadership now, they want to be led by their own”.

Having said that, Yargeau says he's also done a lot of work with seniors in the community and he feels he's proven he’s ready for this next step as Mayor.
