Additions at Red Deer’s Great Chief Park will bear a new name after the city announced J.T. Setters and Sons Construction Ltd. as the name sponsor.

The new pavilion, outdoor speed skating oval and synthetic sports field will be known as Setters Place at Great Chief Park, to open in January.

Its grand opening will take place on Jan. 20.

The sponsorship is worth $245,000 total over seven years.

“We knew there were some premier facilities as a result of the Canada Winter Games that would open up opportunities for naming rights,” said Mayor Tara Veer.

“Ultimately, it provides good value for our taxpayer when sponsors come forward and make a donation and sponsorship in name of their family and allows us flexibility within other parts of the capital plan.”

Casey Setters is the company’s general manager. He said his family has proudly lived in Red Deer and the region for decades.

The company was started by his grandparents in the 1950s and incorporated in 1972 by his father. Today, it employs up to 50 people, he said.

“It’s a legacy thing for our grandparents. I’m proud of what they’ve done and hope to continue that legacy moving forward.”
