To ensure Lacombians health needs are taken care of now and into the future, the City of Lacombe, along with Alberta health Services and Tricon Developments Inc., officially broke ground on a new Community Health Centre Tuesday morning.

Located on 46th street across from the bottle depot, the new Health Centre will bring together all the different health services within the community for easier and more efficient collaboration of health resources, explains AHS Area Manager for Lacombe and Bentley Kimberly Somerville.

“We’re bringing together all of the different services that function within the community, so home care, community health, and mental health services will now all be housed in one building instead of two separate ones within Lacombe. We will have more treatment space for homecare clients and public health. It brings all of those services together, so they can collaborate more readily for patient care.”

No word yet on how many patients or staff the new facility will be able to hold.

Somerville says AHS’s services will continue to be available in their current locations, without disruption to clients, until move dates can be finalized.

Construction time to scheduled completion of the 17,000 square foot facility located next to the bottle depot in Lacombe is 12-18 months.
