An upgrade is on the way for the Blackfalds Volunteer Fire Department's fleet.

The Town of Blackfalds and County of Lacombe have approved the purchase of a new rescue-pumper truck to replace a truck that is 18 years old and nearing its lifespan.

Fire Chief Robert Cote says it's municipal partnerships like this one that help them provide the best fire response possible "work in partnership is hand in hand it helps both communities, helps the residents in the area and the county residents. So it's an improvement and it makes everything more effective for 911 situations".

The Town and County will split the over 540 thousand dollar bill for the new rescue-pumper.
