A possible increase of impaired drivers near the Nursery Golf and Country Club is an area of concern for residents, regarding the club’s proposed addition of an RV site.

At an open house yesterday (Oct. 19) afternoon, residents expressed their worries about the golf course’s proposed development of a 31-lot RV site.

One of the issues that came up was the possibility of people driving up and down the roads while under the influence.

Wayne Bowd was one of the residents who spoke up.

“I’m aware of these types of campsites in and around Central Alberta and I’ve been to these sites and that’s a big concern. I hear what the noise is, I see the drunk people that come and go and I see the neighbours that are upset as the kids are on the gravel roads burning up and down, no helmets and stuff like this.”

“Acreage owners come up and over the hill and all of a sudden there are kids on quads, that’s a concern. It’s a big concern.”

More concerns Bowd had was the potential for an increase of litter along some of the roads in the area and how Lacombe County would react if there was an emergency at the campsite.

“They’ll be allowed to have a little storage building, so it’s going to be more than just RV’s out here and if there is a massive fire, how is our County fire department going respond to that if there is no pond here for backup water.”

“Where is the study that’s been done for that because I didn’t hear it mentioned.”

Planner/Development Officer with Lacombe County Cajun Paradis, who attended the open house, said, in that regard, the owners and developers are not required to worry about a source of water
