There's an opportunity for you this weekend to grab your favourite picnic blanket or lawn chair for another outdoor movie screening in Sylvan Lake.

Last weekend around 3,000 people turned out to see Jaws on a 3 story outdoor screen on the west shore of Lakefront Park.

Mayor Sean McIntyre says it was incredible.

“It absolutely exceeded my expectations.  I was so pleasantly surprised at the massive crowd that turned out, not just on the water in front of the screen where I was in my kayak, but also on land and even on water on the east side of the screen, so it was surrounded by all directions”.

The Mayor says it was quite the experience out on the water, complete with some cinema snacks.

“I had some pretzels and actually some friends on a pontoon boat shared some popcorn with me and that was one of the really cool aspects about the whole event, is that it wasn’t just 3,000 or so individuals watching this movie, it was a group and a community of people and you could see everyone helping each other, whether it was getting in or out of the water or tying rafts together”.

On Sunday night (Aug 13th) at 9 there will be a free screening of Smurfs, followed by Moana on Sunday the 20th at 8:45 pm.

The next two family movie screenings will only be on single sided screens, viewable from Lakefront Park only, unlike the Jaws movie which you could take in on the water.
