Police don’t always have it easy, but with the warm weather finally here, there are tools that make their job a little more helpful.

Across Central Alberta, police have brushed off their motorcycles and haven taken them to the streets.

Sergeant Nathan Kardish from the Ponoka Sherriff’s Department said it makes them feel a little closer to the community.

‘It’s a way for us to interact with the public without having to do enforcement and more of an educational level which is always nice.”

“We’re a little bit more approachable because we don’t have windows, people can walk up to and talk to us.”

Kardish also said the bikes make policing that much easier.

“They’re great for getting through traffic especially when we are trying to go to a call or a crash, it’s nice to have these (motorcycles).”

“We can get there a little faster than the cars can.”

Kardish said it also makes it a lot easier picking out distracted drivers.
